Job Description:


Under general supervision of the Divisional Director, the Administrator oversees the total operation of the facility; plans, organizes, directs, and controls human and fiscal/material resources in order to assure residents receive the highest quality care possible from available resources. Functions independently, with extensive autonomy within the constraints of company policy and procedure, and as outlined by Divisional Director. Direction and guidance are available from Divisional Director, regional consultants, peer administrators within the company, and corporate staff.


Current, valid license to practice as a Nursing Home Administrator in the State of Iowa.

Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations governing nursing facility/skilled nursing facility operation.

Demonstrated effective supervisory, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated fiscal and human resource management skills.

High level of literacy in written and spoken English.

Management and supervisory skills.

Proficient interpersonal relationships and communication skills.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Complete assignments timely, completely and accurately.

Essential Functions

Operate the facility in accordance with the established company policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

Establish systems to enforce the facility policies and procedures.

Assume responsibility for implementation of an effective Quality Assurance program.

Assume responsibility for identification, investigation and follow up on concerns identified in the facility Quality Indicator report.

Act as liaison to the governing body for the medical, nursing and other professional staffs and all facility departments.

Prepare or assure preparation of all reports as required.

Adapt company policies, procedures, job descriptions and other guidelines to meet the specific needs of the facility, without altering the integrity and intent of the original.

Implement, abide by, and enforce policies and procedures necessary for the operation of the facility.

Develop and maintain census at optimal levels.

Serve as an active member of all committees, where applicable.

Assume responsibility for reviewing and evaluating all recommendations of the facility’s committees and consultants.

Interpret all federal, state and local regulations for the facility staff.

Establish systems to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.

Arrange with appropriate state and legal agencies for the guardianship of those residents in need.

Supervise all department supervisors and administrative staff.

Supervise the recruitment, employment, performance, evaluation, promotion and discharge of all staff. Implement according to established company policies and procedures and in accordance with federal, state, and local laws/regulations.

Supervise orientation, training, and benefits administration of facility staff and assure compliance with established company policy and procedures and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Develop one-to-one relationships with residents and families.

Assure required notifications, reports, and responses to surveys are made in a timely manner.

Plan and conduct marketing, public awareness, and other community support activities.

Delegation of Authority

Authority is delegated to the individual in this position to:

Develop, maintain and implement operational policies and procedures to meet residents’ needs in compliance with federal, state and local requirements.

Determine the personnel requirements of the facility and hire or arrange for sufficient staff to implement the facility policies and procedures.

Develop a monitoring system to assure compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
