Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Nurse Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Part-Time Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7 PM - 7 AM) Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred License: Wisconsin Registered Nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS required; NRP, TNCC, ATCN encouraged Description: The Registered Nurse position is responsible for coordinating the nursing care of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Patients may range from pediatric to geriatric and can present at any point on the continuum from illness to wellness. Performs all aspects of direct patient care and collaborates with other disciplines and ancillary services in the care provided. Plans, implements, and evaluates all levels of patient care. Conducts age-appropriate assessments and provides safe and effective care to all ages. Performs triage according to the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 5-level triage process. Documents using medical terminology and maintains a record that is medically and legally acceptable, reflecting all nursing care provided and the patient's response. Collaborates with providers, peers, ancillary departments, and outside agencies to provide efficient, effective patient care. Coordinates the care needs of multiple patients and prioritizes care to ensure patient needs are met in a timely fashion. Delivers quality care and enhances patient flow. Communicates patient needs concisely and advocates for patients through communication with providers and peers. Actively participates in developing professional goals and completes all required education and in-services on time. Assesses patient and family knowledge and discharge needs, providing appropriate support. Monitors life support and automated technical equipment while performing routine and complex treatments. Inserts and safely administers IV fluids, blood products, and other parenteral fluids. Responds to crises calmly and efficiently, directing others clearly. Uses delegation appropriately and complies with legal consent and transfer protocols to preserve patient rights. Rapidly solves problems and delivers efficient care in high-stress situations. Maintains equipment and supplies, ensuring all checklists are completed. Participates in providing educational experiences for pre-hospital emergency providers and other learners. Demonstrates proficiency in computer documentation of patient care and related information. Performs all other duties as assigned.
