OverviewThe Salvation Army Mission StatementThe Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church.-- Its message is based on the Bible.-- Its ministry is motivated by the love of Christ.-- Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.--Job Summary: --Provide general clerical, business, and receptionist support for The Salvation Army office - including maintaining databases, calendars, and correspondence with the public.--ResponsibilitiesEssential Responsibilities:

  • General reception duties, including
    • Being a friendly and welcoming first contact for people coming to or calling The Salvation Army.--
    • Be familiar with Salvation Army programs and church services.-- Be comfortable inviting people to utilize these services; refer to other agencies when appropriate.--
    • Give accurate and timely phone and voicemail messages to staff.--
    • Pick up mail from post office
    • Unlock and lock the building each morning/evening
    • Service welcome area
    • Make signs as directed
    • Make Copies/Scan/Prepare Documents as directed by staff.
    • Correspond by e-mail and phone with Advisory Board, Corps Council members, Divisional Finance Board, and other agencies as directed.-- Send out thank you letters and birthday cards.--
    • Set up calendar meetings and send reminders to attendees.-- Keep ongoing calendar of events for staff
    • Prepare deposits for bank.--
    • Working with Regional Accountant and Donor Services - maintain, properly file, and send to Divisional Headquarters all paperwork relating to bookkeeping, invoices, check requests, and deposits - in a timely and accurate manner.------
    • Keep track of corps statistics. --Obtain statistics from other employees and corps leaders.-- Once a month, prepare monthly statistical reports and accurately enter information into statistical database.
    • Keep track of vendors and contractors.-- Contact vendors and contractors for routine building maintenance. ------------
    • Every other week send time card information to divisional headquarters.-- With the assistance of divisional headquarters, keep track of employee vacation and sick time.--
    • Assist volunteers and other employees with usage of volunteer database, including entering of information.-- Prepare applications for volunteers as needed.
    • In absence of a Youth Development Coordinator, register campers and enter information into camp database.--
    • Assist clients with food pantry intake forms, taking and filing client information, and food filling orders when needed.--
    • Care of office supplies and equipment, including ordering supplies as needed
    • During Christmas season, help register volunteers using Register to Ring database.--
    • Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
    • Maintain compliance in The Salvation Armys Safe from Harm Certification.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.----Travel may be required.--Position Ranking: Regular, Part Time, Non-Exempt. Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM (30 minute unpaid lunch break) (8:00 AM on Thursdays).--QualificationsQualifications:Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid drivers license.--Education:High School Diploma or Equivalent.--Skills:
      • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications, Internet and Social Media platforms. Typing speed of 40 words per minute or higher preferred.--
      • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage people and projects successfully.
      • Team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.
      • Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
      • Some additional and/or flexibility with hours may be required during the Christmas season.--Physical Demands/ Work Environment:This Position is required to do basic business and office work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, sit and use hands.-- Individual must be able to regularly lift up to 30 pounds and occassionally lift up to fifty pounds.-- The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary. Vision abilities will require close vision.-- Work may be performed indoors and occasionally require outdoors to attend meetings. There is low to moderate noise level for this position.--
