Collins Aerospace Core Systems and Libraries team! This position is
for a highly experienced and motivated Principal Software Engineer
that will be involved in the architecture, design, implementation,
verification, and integration of a wide variety of next generation
software products that incorporate open architecture design
concepts with civil certification. As an engineer this
organization, you will be employing best practice design
methodologies and utilizing emerging technologies to develop the
next generation of Avionics Products, truly defining the future of
aerospace. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of
software development practices, military/commercial certification,
and experience leading execution teams. This is an onsite position
based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. What You Will Do: Defining
architecture for software components, applications, libraries, and
tooling to avionic system’s requirements. Recommend and lead
functional strategies to advance the software discipline and
products. Understand product certification requirements and
establish DO-178 planning documents for development projects.
Requirements capture, decomposition, and traceability. Software
component design and/or verification. C++ Object Oriented
Development. Creation of DO-178 DAL-A certification artifacts for
avionics software products. Conduct and/or participate in peer
reviews throughout product lifecycle. Lead teams through
certification reviews with customers and/or authorities.
Communicate with a wide variety of individuals including
Engineering, Program Management, internal leadership and customers
What You Will Learn: You will learn the technologies of today and

avionics industry. You will learn all phases of the hardware
product life cycle from requirements through to verification, while
employing the company engineering processes to produce high quality
products. You will learn the requirements for product certification
required by federal agencies. You will learn how to establish and
maintain a software product line with a broad base of customers.
Education & Experience You must have: Typically requires a degree
in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and
minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in
a related field and minimum 5 years of experience U.S. citizenship
is required , as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access
information under this program/contract. Qualifications You Must
Have: Experience with I/O Architecture, Libraries, and Tooling in
an aerospace context. Experience leading technical projects
including customer interaction and briefing leadership. Experience
with DO-178 certification activities for software developments.
Experience with interfacing with the wide spectrum of individual
contributors to program management and customers. Willingness to
travel (domestic and international Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience with C++ and VxWorks. Experience writing High-Level and
Low-Level Requirements. Experience writing Test Cases and Automated
Test Procedures. Experience with Civil Certification DO-178 – DAL A
preferred. Experience with design and development of Flight
Management Systems, Software, Aircraft Applications or Middleware.
Familiar with revision control concepts and tools (e.g. GIT,

salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary
range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all
experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an
